Delhi Metro Opens to Global Market

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has established a new international arm called Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL) to bring its operational expertise to the international market. This move transforms DMRC from a locally focused operator into a lean, globally-oriented service brand offering consultancy, construction, and operational services worldwide.

Delhi Metro and DMIL’s Transition to the Global Market Game

The establishment of DMIL has enabled DMRC to eliminate risk and personnel time constraints arising from domestic projects. The main function of DMIL is to sell DMRC’s knowledge and expertise in India to foreign governments, multilateral credit agencies, and metro companies:

Scope of Services: DMIL now undertakes consultancy, construction, turnkey project management, and operations abroad. This means one team exports India’s expertise while another team continues its train operations in its own country.

Domestic Line Consolidation: DMIL also took over existing DMRC operation and maintenance contracts in Mumbai and Chennai, simplifying reporting lines and allowing specialized teams to be assigned to more complex projects in a more predictable manner.

DMIL’s Search for Overseas Projects

DMIL actively scans for international opportunities. The company is seeking projects across a wide geography from London and Sydney to emerging centers in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Offered Package: According to internal planning documents, DMIL provides a comprehensive package including network planning, design, feasibility studies, project supervision, operation manuals, and policy or financing models.

Strategic Focus: Recognizing that timing is critical to winning international consultancy contracts, the team closely follows early feasibility studies, pre-qualification notices, and bidding schedules.

Meanwhile, DMRC continues to invest in talent development and domestic assets as long-term advantages. In this context, the company is renewing its training academy and establishing a Incubation Center that brings together universities, newly formed companies, and industry partners.
