AI-powered Audiobook Summaries are coming to Spotify

Innovative feature from Spotify makes story tracking easier: Audio Book Summaries

Spotify, has been attracting attention with its investments in the audio book market in recent years, and this new feature is one of the most recent examples of the platform’s user-focused approach. Audio Book Summaries are designed to make the listening experience more intuitive and user-friendly. At the heart of the technology are both an AI-powered analysis system and an ethical framework that protects content creators.

Audio Book Summaries create a special summary by analyzing only the part of the book that has been listened to before. This allows the listener to re-adapt to the story without having to listen to the book from the beginning. The feature works when a user taps the special Summary button on the page of the book after returning to an audio book on Spotify. The system prepares your first summary after about 15–20 minutes of listening and offers updated new summaries as you progress, tailored to the listener. This way, users can seamlessly continue the story even after a long break.

The AI system behind the technology does not mimic the author’s writing style, does not reproduce the narration of the book, and does not replace the original content. This approach protects the rights of content creators and strengthens the platform’s ethical standards. Currently in beta, Audio Book Summaries are available for a limited number of English titles for iOS users.
