New Era in Investments in Turkey’s Railway Infrastructure

Ministry’s Goals and Long-term Plans
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has set quite ambitious targets for 2023 and beyond. Within the scope of these plans, especially the railway network aims to increase its total length to 17,287 kilometers by 2028. Additionally, significantly expanding the length of high-speed rail lines and integrating new cities with high-speed train connections are among the top priorities. These developments are becoming a fundamental tool to achieve critical objectives such as regional development, economic growth, and reduction of carbon footprint.
Bold Goals in Railway Speed and Eco-Friendly Transportation
Turkey is implementing large-scale projects to accelerate and expand railway transportation. Thanks to these projects, approximately 105 million passengers aim to dramatically reduce travel times by traveling on high-speed rail lines in previous years. The high-speed train projects planned until 2028 aim to connect every corner of the country with more sustainable and energy-efficient transportation networks. Within this scope, with the construction of new lines and the improvement of existing lines, distances are shortened, and transportation costs are reduced.
Advanced Production of Domestic and National Railway Technologies
Turkey is increasing its investments in local and national technologies to strengthen the railway industry. TÜRASAŞ has established modern facilities to produce critical components such as electric locomotives and train sets. Annually, 16 E5000 electric locomotives, 100 military-purpose freight wagons, and various train sets are produced with domestic capabilities. These initiatives increase export potential and also boost the development of the domestic industry. Thus, Turkey is achieving independence and a high quality level in railway technologies, boosting its competitive power globally.
Long-term Vision with New Lines and Projects
Turkey’s railway projects are not limited to modernization of existing lines; they are also expanding with the completion of new lines and high-speed train connections. Among the projects planned for 2026 and beyond are the completion of important high-speed rail lines such as Osmaneli-Bursa, Çerkezköy-Kapıkule, Yerköy-Kayseri, Karaman-Ulukışla, Kırıkkale-Çorum. These lines will strengthen regional connections and play a role in reducing costs in freight and passenger transportation. Additionally, major cultural, agricultural, and industrial centers in different regions of Turkey are more effectively connected through integrated railway networks.
