
Strategic Importance of Advanced Launch Infrastructure
Vandenberg Space Force Base has continued to be one of the cornerstones of American defense and space programs with a total of 77 high-priority space and missile operations in 2025. Following this high level of activity, Space Launch Delta 30 (SLD 30) focuses on developing regional infrastructure and adding next-generation capacity. The Joint Request for Information (RFI) published on December 29, 2025, assesses the interest of various commercial service providers in establishing new and enhanced launch infrastructure at Vandenberg in a manner that addresses risks and costs.
The infrastructure to be developed is specifically designed to enable the successful transport of medium, heavy, and super heavy payloads into space. Although current facilities are limited by certain constraints, the lack of infrastructure for heavy and super heavy loads presents a significant need. In line with these developments, such infrastructure is critically important for strengthening regional strategic superiority and successfully executing new programs.
SLC-14 and Super Heavy Launch Center
SLC-14 at Vandenberg stands out as one of the most critical infrastructure points in the region. This facility, in terms of both location and technological infrastructure, has the distinction of being the region’s first super heavy launch center. As a result, it becomes an ideal hub for missiles and rockets that offer high lift capacity, especially for polar and sun-synchronous orbits. This advancement makes high-capacity launches crucial not only for military and civilian payloads but also for international customers.
Thanks to the new infrastructure, especially heavy payloads ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 kilograms and super heavy payloads above this level, can be sent to space more quickly and reliably. The strategic location of the base and infrastructure improvements offer important advantages in achieving regional and international dominance.
Strong Independence and Operational Flexibility
The U.S. Space Force is reinforcing its independence in national security and space operations through new infrastructure and capacity investments. Designed to support large and complex satellite configurations and to provide flexibility for various missions, this infrastructure aims to enhance operational continuity and minimize supply chain risks. Additionally, the infrastructure development projects will be carried out by companies capable of covering costs.
Companies interested in participating in infrastructure projects and submitting proposals must do so by February 12, 2026. This step is seen as a critical milestone for sustaining national security, competitiveness, and technological superiority. The developed infrastructure also plays a vital role in providing high resilience against unexpected operational failures and supporting long-term planning.
