Central to this effort is the restoration of the Rubí Tunnel, which is pivotal for regional connectivity.

Recent inspections confirmed that the first 60 meters of the tunnel’s structure now feature strengthened supports capable of handling increased loads and adverse conditions. The tunnel operates for 12 hours daily, facilitating a constantly improving flow of freight and passenger trains in the region.

Innovative barriers, water-repellent coatings, and reinforced foundations ensure that viaducts and tunnels can withstand harsh coastal conditions. These efforts extend the lifespan of critical links and reduce long-term maintenance costs, preventing future disruptions caused by natural elements.

Proactive Landslide and Slope Stabilization

Soil instability threats prompted stabilization projects involving over 65 sections since January. Engineers employ techniques like rock bolting, drainage improvements, and slope regrading to prevent landslides and washouts, especially in hilly terrains around Barcelona and Tarragona.

These measures are integral to ensuring uninterrupted service, preserving fragile settlements, and maintaining the safety of passengers and freight alike.

Reducing Speed Restrictions to Maximize Efficiency

Heavy infrastructural repairs initially meant extensive speed restrictions, slowing train services. However, concerted efforts have lowered these limits from 216 to only 157 points since March, considerably enhancing schedule punctuality.

Through precise planning and deployment of faster repair methodologies, authorities aim to eliminate almost all speed limits, restoring full operational capacity while maintaining safety standards. This results in faster trips, increased frequency, and a better travel experience for commuters.
