Since its inauguration on December 3, 2021, the China-Laos Railway has transformed regional logistics, setting new standards in international freight transportation. According to official reports from the Kunming Group of China National Railways, the railway has surpassed all expectations, facilitating a dramatic increase in cross-border freight volume. Over the past year, more than 10 million tons of cargo has been transported along this route, with 2.5 million tons being shipped across international borders, exemplifying its vital role in regional connectivity and economic integration.

The number of daily border-crossing train services soared from just 2 trains per day initially, to over 23 trains daily by the middle of 2023. Moreover, the volume of specialty cargo, especially fresh produce, has grown at an extraordinary rate. By June 11, the annual export of fruits and vegetables via this corridor increased by 73.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 185,000 tons. These figures underscore the critical importance of the railway for agricultural exports, particularly for products that require swift delivery to preserve freshness and quality.

The China-Laos Railway has effectively linked China with multiple Southeast Asian nations, including Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Bangladesh. Additionally, the railway’s connectivity extends beyond Southeast Asia. It acts as a conduit to a broader international network, facilitating transport to 19 countries and regions.
