Turkish UAVs will be produced in Italy

Turkey’s momentum in the defense industry has extended to the heart of Europe. Baykar has taken a step into a new era by incorporating the Italian aerospace giant Piaggio Aerospace into its structure. With this strategic acquisition, it was announced that Turkish-made UAVs/UCAVs, including the Bayraktar TB3 and AKINCI TİHA, will now be produced in Italy. This decision is more than just a factory choice; it is a concrete indicator that Turkey’s technological level is recognized by Europe.

Strategic Investment and European Integration

Baykar management emphasizes that this initiative is not merely a financial purchase, but a long-term, multi-layered strategic investment. Through integration in Italy, Baykar’s high-tech unmanned aerial systems will combine with Europe’s established aerospace infrastructure. The joint venture established with Leonardo as a production partner in Italy will accelerate certification processes to meet European standards for platforms like the Bayraktar TB3 and AKINCI TİHA. As a result, Turkish UAVs/UCAVs will not only be export products but will also be positioned as a direct part of Europe’s defense architecture.

Piaggio Heritage and Civil Aviation Vision

With over 140 years of history, Piaggio, one of Italy’s leading brands, combines its expertise with Baykar’s innovative vision. Piaggio’s iconic P.180 Avanti turboprop aircraft is re-emerging with an increased annual production capacity of 25–30 units. The modernization program, Avanti Next, aims to overhaul avionics systems, cabin equipment, and digital communication infrastructure from start to finish. This step supports Baykar’s goal of becoming a global and sustainable player in the civil aviation market.

On-site Production and Regional Security

The models produced in Italy, such as the Bayraktar TB3, offer critical solutions for European navies with their ability to take off and land from the sea. The AKINCI TİHA will continue to play a strategic role with high altitude and long-range capabilities. Manufacturing these models in Europe will shorten logistics processes and minimize concerns related to maintenance and repairs. In this way, Turkish defense industry products will achieve a more flexible and effective position in the global market through the “on-site production” model.

Global Recognition for Turkey

Producing Turkish UAVs/UCAVs in Italy signifies a confirmation of the technological level achieved in defense technologies on an international platform. This integration with Europe’s industrial infrastructure creates new opportunities for technology transfer, strengthens defense exports economically, and enhances Baykar’s brand value.

With this move, Baykar now crowns its success across a vast geography extending from Africa to Central Asia with production in Europe. The production starting at facilities in Italy is the most tangible proof of the goal to bring “native and national” technology together with a global vision.
